This website helps you understand the work of the RSPCA Macclesfield,South East Cheshire, and Buxton Branch, Caring for the welfare of, rescuing and rehoming animals in parts of Cheshire and Derbyshire.

Our branch, like all local RSPCA branches is a separate charity which though under the umbrella of the national RSPCA headquarters,is not centrally funded.Neither the national society nor this branch receive monies from the Government. This means we exist through donations from the local community and must raise funds through regular events within the branch’s boundaries.

These pages include details of all animals temporarily in our care and for which we seek new permanent or foster homes. Joining the RSPCA makes you part of this important animal charity at both national and local branch levels.

The branch does not have it’s own animal centre, we rely on fosterers and private boarding so space is limited. Our priority are the animals that come in via the Inspectors; abuse, cruelty, neglect and abandonment cases.

However, when we have space we do take in dogs, cats, rabbits, small furries and some caged animals/birds direct from members of the public if they need to rehome their pets.

About us

Our branch, one of 175 such local RSPCA organisations, covers a notable part of Cheshire extending into Derbyshire to encompass Buxton. Created in 1989 in our present form, we lie within the national society’s Northern Region, and serve the animals within our boundaries. We operate as an all volunteer, autonomous, self-funding foundation, based on the rules, regulations and guidelines of the national society.

Geographically, the branch covers a very large area which is bounded roughly by a line running from Styal near Manchester Airport, east to Poynton then across to slightly and east of Buxton, south-west to Scholar Green, then to Alsager and Sandbach before running north back to Styal.

Alderley Edge, Buxton, Congleton, Macclesfield, Prestbury and Wilmslow are larger communities within our boundaries.

We support the work of the RSPCA

Inspectorate operating in the Cheshire Group Area through liaison with inspectors, animal collection officers and the staff at the society’s regional headquarters in Leeds.

This involves taking in and caring for animals rescued by inspectors or which are removed by voluntary arrangement with owners who are unable to guarantee an acceptable level of care or quality of life.

Additionally, we fund the temporary placement of these and other animals in kennels, catteries and other appropriate facilities whilst their rehoming or fostering is sought from within the community.

We fund and oversee veterinary treatment for animals in our care, run animal neutering programmes and provide ‘home visitors’ to check on compatibilty of animal and potential adopter in our branch area for our animals and those from any other RSPCA branch.

See HM Revenue & Customs.

If you opt to donate say £10 per pay day, then the government adds the tax normally paid on that figure, so the actual sum deducted from your pay is actually £7.80 for a 22% taxpayer and £6.00 for a 40% taxpayer.

Gift Aid

If you are a tax payer, by donating

a small amount each month to the branch, we will be able to maximise your gift by claiming back the tax you have already paid.

Download the Gift Aid Declaration

Remember the branch in your will

A legacy or bequest will provide crucial funds – we could not carry out our work without such generous support.

Talk to your solicitor when making a Will. Many people leave a bequest to the RSPCA nationally but you can bequeath money to your local branch.

Please remember that the Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton Branch is a separately registered charity.

So, if you would like the animals in your local area to benefit, we would respectfully suggest that your legacy wording reads:

“I give devise and bequeath to the RSPCA Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton Branch (registered charity number 225689) the sum of £…….or the whole (or a share) of my residuary estate for its general charitable purposes.”
